The Association for Jewish Studies announces that it has received $1.1 million dollars from the Foundation for Jewish Culture which ceased operations in 2014. The new monies will support a variety of AJS initiatives and establish an endowment fund to support dissertation writing and research.
Former AJS President Pamela Nadell said about these funds: “For generations, the Foundation for Jewish Culture supported scholarly projects. The roster of AJS recipients of its Maurice and Marilyn Cohen Fund for Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships in Jewish Studies have become the luminaries of our field. The AJS is thrilled to have received these funds to continue to sustain and advance scholarship, teaching, and learning in Jewish Studies.”
The AJS is proud to support its members and views this new endowment as an exciting investment in our future as we look towards our 50th anniversary in 2019.
